چکیده

The 3 862.5 cm−1 vibration of oxygen in crystalline germanium is shown to decay into one 1 local mode of the oxygen center plus two lattice modes. This description predicts increases in the linewidths in O-doped germanium, and decreases in the linewidths in O-doped germanium, as the Ge mass in the Ge-O-Ge complex increases, in agreement with observation. The decay time is expected to vary only slightly with the isotope of oxygen, as observed, and the smallest reported linewidths are consistent with the measured decay times.

Direct detection of oxygen intermediates in the non-heme Fe enzyme taurine/alpha-ketoglutarate dioxygenase.

The reaction of substrate-bound taurine/alpha-ketoglutarate dioxygenase with O2 has been studied using cryogenic continuous-flow spectroscopy. Transient absorption spectra acquired at -38 degrees C show an exponential decay of a 318-nm chromophore with an apparent rate of 1.3 s-1. The observed optical changes and their kinetics are consistent with the profile of an Fe(IV) species detected recen...

Isotope Dependence of the Lifetime of the 1136-cm 1 Vibration of Oxygen in Silicon

0031-9007= By simply changing the isotopes of the Si atoms that neighbor an oxygen Oi atom in crystalline silicon, the measured decay rate of the asymmetric-stretch vibration ( 3 1136 cm 1) of oxygen (Oi) in silicon changes by a factor of 2:5. These data establish that 3 decays by creating one 1 symmetric-stretch, local-vibrational mode of the Si-Oi-Si structure. If the residual energy ( 3 1) i...

Silica-clad crystalline germanium core optical fibers.

Silica-clad optical fibers comprising a core of crystalline germanium were drawn using a molten core technique. With respect to previous fibers drawn using a borosilicate cladding, the present fibers exhibit negligible oxygen despite being fabricated at more than twice the melting point of the germanium. The counterintuitive result of less oxygen when the fiber is drawn at a higher temperatures...

Theory of Interstitial Oxygen in Silicon and Germanium Emilio Artacho and Felix Yndurain

Abstract. The interstitial oxygen centers in silicon and germanium are reconsidered and compared in an analysis based on the first-principles total-energy determination of the potential-energy surface of the centers, and a calculation of their respective low energy excitations and infrared absorption spectra. The total-energy calculations reveal unambiguously that interstitial oxygen is quantum...

Temperature dependence of continuum and time resolved photoluminescence of germanium nanostructures

Germanium nanostructures were generated in the post annealed germanium oxide thin films. Visible and near infrared photoluminescence bands were observed in the samples annealed at 350°C and 400°C, respectively. These different luminescence ranges are attributed to the presence of the defects in oxide matrix and quantum confinement effect in the germanium nanostructures, respectively. Decay ti...
